Animals hold a special place in many peoples lives-whether they realize it or not. Seeing a dog wag its tail is always a sign of welcome, having a cat rub up against you shows its affection, getting near enough to possibly touch a horse usually causes our hearts to race with excitement. Hello Friends and Animal Lovers! My name is Karen Testa, and I have recently graduated with my Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Commercial Photography. I am starting a new Photography Business that is fashioned towards animal portraiture. I have picked my company name to represent my focus based on these two mythical beings working together. Artemis the mythical goddess of creatures, with her companion Aerion, the indestructible wild horse created of the earth, seeking to nurture, protect, and save the beauty of all animals. I will be posting my explorations here in this blog for you to be inspired. Inspiration for my photography comes from animals that quietly interact within our environment in and around our lives that we sometimes take for granted. Capturing these moments helps us remember that their influence effects our lives in more ways than one. Just saying the word “Faithful Companion” can bring up an image in your mind of an animal that you have interacted with in your life, as well as an emotional reaction that reveals what type of experience you may have had. Stories are not far behind. Usually an inherit human reaction to what people were exposed to and where they grew up tells what animals they prefer to be around, or what culture influenced them to feel the reaction to seeing amazing animals, the emotions captured in an image that are conveyed in both animal and human. Humans have been drawing, carving, casting and painting the likeness of their companions for millions of years to show connections and tell these stories. Choosing to photograph them interacting with us is another way to capture their majestic beauty, their seemingly human emotions and to show this everlasting emotional bond. The collection of photos here represent my work capturing these moments of raw emotion that comes from seeing the majestic horse, the canine companion, the majesty of the faithful feline. I hope that I may capture the beauty of your animals in the future. Thank you for visiting!
